SAINT NICHOLAS OF TOLENTINO

PATRON SAINT OF THE SOULS IN PURGATORY

Saint Nicholas of Tolentino
Patron Saint of Souls in Purgatory

"During his life, Nicholas is said to have received visions, including images of Purgatory, which friends ascribed to his lengthy fasts. Prayer for the souls in Purgatory was the outstanding characteristic of his spirituality. Because of this Nicholas was proclaimed patron of the souls in Purgatory, in 1884 by Leo XIII." WIKIPEDIA

Once, while asleep, a fellow friar who had died shortly before spoke to him from purgatory and urged him to celebrate the Eucharist for him and other souls there, so that they would be set free by the power of Christ. Nicholas did so for seven days. The friar again spoke to Nicholas, thanking him and assuring him that a large number of souls were now with God. Because of this Nicholas was proclaimed patron of the souls in Purgatory. CATHOLIC IRELAND

In 1961 Sister Lucia of Fatima grieved to Father Augustin Fuentes who was visiting her, "Father, our Lady is very unhappy because they have not taken Her message of 1917 seriously. NEITHER THE GOOD NOR THE BAD HAVE PAID ANY ATTENTION TO IT. The good continue their way without preoccupying themselves with it, they do not heed her celestial requests. The bad walk through life swollen with perdition, not taking into account the punishment that threatens them. Believe me, Father, God will chastise the world very soon. THINK, FATHER, ABOUT ALL THE SOULS WHO WILL FALL INTO HELL. This will happen because no one prays, because they do not do penance."

"What is the purpose of all this talk of Hell in Lucia's message, to frighten us? No! It is assumed that a majority of this book's [and this blog's cj] readers are adult Christians of sound faith who are in the state of grace. THE PURPOSE IS TO EMPHASIZE MARY'S CALL FOR PRAYER, SACRIFICE, & PENANCE IN ORDER TO SAVE THE SOULS OF OTHERS.
