Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, "The rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the rosary is beyond description."  

How To Pray the Rosary 

While the rosary and the indulgences attached to it by the Church essentially concerns the decades and the meditation upon the mysteries only, the following is a customary way of preparing for the rosary and concluding it.  

1. Preparation: Start by making the sign of the Cross:

"In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen." 

Then recite the Apostle's Creed:

"I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen. "

Then say (1) Our Father, (3) Hail Marys (for the virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity) and then (1) Glory Be:

"Our Father, Who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen. "

"Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of death. Amen."

"Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. "  

2. The Rosary Proper

The Rosary is essentially the decades and their associated mysteries, and only these must be prayed to "pray the rosary", either in satisfaction of Our Lady's requests, or, to gain the indulgences attached to praying the rosary.

The traditional Rosary is divided into three parts, each having five mysteries: Glorious, Joyful and Sorrowful. In his apostolic letter The Rosary of the Virgin Mary, Pope John Paul II proposed a new set of mysteries, which he called the Luminous, and which concern the period of the public life of Our Lord. For those who wish to say all 20 decades at once during the course of a day, they may be said in the following order: Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful and Glorious.

For those who wish to say only 5 decades per day, the Holy Father proposed the following schedule: Monday (Joyful) Tuesday (Sorrowful) Wednesday (Glorious) Thursday (Luminous) Friday (Sorrowful) Saturday (Joyful) Sunday (Glorious)  

Joyful Mysteries of the Rosary: The Annunciation, The Visitation, The Nativity, The Presentation, The Finding in the Temple.

Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary: The Baptism of Jesus in the Jordan,  The Wedding at Cana, The Proclamation of the Kingdom, The Transfiguration, The Institution of the Eucharist. 

Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary: The Agony in the Garden, The Scourging at the Pillar, The Crowning with Thorns, The Carrying of the Cross, The Crucifixion and Death of Jesus.

Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary: The Resurrection, The Ascension, The Descent of the Holy Spirit, The Assumption of Mary, The Crowning of Mary as Queen of Heaven.

While meditating on the Mysteries, recite:

(1) Our Father (large beads), (10) Hail Marys (small beads) and (1) Glory Be (before the next large bead) to make a complete decade of the rosary.

After each decade the Fátima Prayer may also be said (Pope Pius XII).

 "O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell, lead all souls to heaven, especially those who are in most need of Thy mercy."   

3. Concluding Prayers

After the completion of five mysteries (5 decades), or 15 or 20, the following is customarily said:

"Hail, holy Queen, mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary." 

"Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ."

Rosary Prayer

"Let us pray, O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection, has purchased for us the rewards of eternal salvation. Grant, we beseech Thee, that while meditating on these mysteries of the most holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary, that we may both imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise, through Christ our Lord. Amen."

"Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us."

 

4. Pray for the Intentions of the Holy Father

Catholics who say the rosary in a group, or, individually before the Blessed Sacrament, may gain a plenary indulgence under the usual conditions, which includes prayer for the intentions of the Holy Father.  For the intentions of the Holy Father: say one Our Father, one Hail Mary, and one Glory Be.

"In the Name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen."

How to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

 1. Begin with the Sign of the Cross, 1 Our Father, 1 Hail Mary and The Apostles Creed.

2. Then on the Our Father Beads say the following: 
"Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world."

3. On the 10 Hail Mary Beads say the following: 
"For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

(Repeat step 2 and 3 for all five decades).

4. Conclude with (three times): 
"Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world."

In 1933, God gave Saint Faustina a vision of His Mercy, 

Saint Faustina wrote:  "I saw a great light, with God the Father

in the midst of it.   Between this light and the earth I saw Jesus

nailed to the Cross and in such a way that God, wanting to look

 upon the earth, had to look through Our Lord's wounds and I 

understood that God blessed the earth for the sake of Jesus." 

Of another vision on Sept. 13, 1935,  "I saw an Angel, the

executor of God's wrath... about to strike the earth...

I began to beg God earnestly for the world with words which

 I heard interiorly. As I prayed in this way,I saw the  Angel's

helplessness, and he could not carry out the just punishment... . "

The following day an inner voice taught her to say this

prayer on ordinary rosary beads:   [See above. cj]

Jesus said later to Saint Faustina:  "Say unceasingly this 

chaplet that I have taught you. Anyone who says it will 

receive great Mercy at the hour of death. Priests will 

recommend it to sinners as the last hope. Even the most 

hardened sinner, if he recites this Chaplet even once, will 

receive grace from My Infinite Mercy. I want the whole 

world to know My Infinite Mercy. I want to give 

unimaginable graces to those who trust in My Mercy... .

 When they say this Chaplet in the presence of the dying,

 I will stand between My Father and the dying person

 not as the just judge but as the Merciful Savior."

How to pray the St. Michael Chaplet 

1)  Call on God to be present with you:

"O God, come to my assistance. O Lord, make haste to help me. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end."

2)  Make the Nine Salutations in honor of the nine Choirs of Angels. After each salutation, pray one Our Father and three Hail Marys:

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Seraphim, may the Lord make us worthy to burn with the fire of perfect charity. Amen."  Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Cherubim, may the Lord grant us the grace to leave the ways of sin and run in the paths of Christian perfection. Amen."  Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Thrones, may the Lord infuse into our hearts a true and sincere spirit of humility. Amen." Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Dominations, may the Lord give us grace to govern our senses and overcome any unruly passions. Amen." Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

"May the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Virtues, may the Lord preserve us from evil and falling into temptation. Amen."  Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Powers, may the Lord protect our souls against the snares and temptations of the devil. Amen." Say one Our Father and 3 Hail Marys.   

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Principalities, may God fill our souls with a true spirit of obedience. Amen."  Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Archangels, may the Lord give us perseverance in faith and in all good works in order that we may attain the glory of Heaven. Amen." Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

"By the intercession of St. Michael and the celestial Choir of Angels, may the Lord grant us to be protected by them in this mortal life and conducted in the life to come to Heaven. Amen." Say one Our Father and three Hail Marys.

3)  Say one Our Father in honor of St. Michael the Archangel. 

"Our Father, who art in heaven, …"

4)  Say one Our Father in honor of St. Gabriel the Archangel.

5)  Say one Our Father in honor of St. Raphael the Archangel.

7)  Conclude your time with God and St. Michael the Archangel with the following prayers. 

"O glorious prince St. Michael, chief and commander of the heavenly hosts, guardian of souls, vanquisher of rebel spirits, servant in the house of the Divine King and our admirable conductor, you who shine with excellence and superhuman virtue deliver us from all evil, who turn to you with confidence and enable us by your gracious protection to serve God more and more faithfully every day. Pray for us, O glorious St. Michael, Prince of the Church of Jesus Christ, that we may be made worthy of His promises.

"Almighty and Everlasting God, Who, by a prodigy of goodness and a merciful desire for the salvation of all men, has appointed the most glorious Archangel St. Michael Prince of Your Church, make us worthy, we ask You, to be delivered from all our enemies, that none of them may harass us at the hour of death, but that we may be conducted by him into Your Presence. This we ask through the merits of Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen."  HALLOW

   

     The Chaplet of St. Michael is a wonderful way to honor this great Archangel along with the other nine Choirs of Angels. What do we mean by Choirs? It seems that God has created various orders of Angels. Sacred Scripture distinguishes nine such groupings: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Powers, Virtues, Principalities, Archangels and Angels (Isa. 6: 2; Gen. 3: 24; Col. 1: 16; Eph. 1: 21; Rom. 8: 38). There may be more groupings but these are the only ones that have been revealed to us. The Seraphim is believed to be the highest Choir, the most intimately united to God, while the Angelic Choir is the lowest.
     The history of this Chaplet goes back to a devout Servant of God, Antonia d'Astonac, who had a vision of St. Michael. He told Antonia to honor him by nine salutations to the nine Choirs of Angels. St. Michael promised that whoever would practice this devotion in his honor would have, when approaching Holy Communion, an escort of nine angels chosen from each of the nine Choirs. In addition, for those who would recite the Chaplet daily, he promised his continual assistance and that of all the holy angels during life, and after death deliverance from purgatory for themselves and their relations.  EWTN

February 2, 1990: Mirjana received this apparition in Portland, Oregon in the United States of America while visiting Father Milan Mekulich who presided at her marriage. Mirjana had been receiving interior locutions on the second day of each month but on this occasion she was graced by an apparition and a message for the world.

"I have been with you nine years. For nine years I wanted to tell you that God, your Father, is the only way, truth and life. I wish to show you the way to Eternal Life. I wish to be your tie, your connection to the profound faith. LISTEN TO ME!

“Take your Rosary and get your children, your families with you. This is the way to come to salvation. Give your good example to your children: give a good example to those who do not believe. You will not have happiness on this earth, neither will you come to Heaven if you are not with pure and humble hearts, and do not fulfill the law of God. I am asking for your help to join me to pray for those who do not believe. You are helping me very little. You have little charity or love for your neighbor and God gave you the love and showed you how you should forgive and love others. For that reason, reconcile and purify your soul. TAKE YOUR ROSARY AND PRAY IT. All your sufferings take patiently. You should remember that Jesus was patiently suffering for you.

Let me be your Mother and your tie to God, to the Eternal Life. Do not impose your faith on the unbelievers. Show it to them by your example and pray for them. MY CHILDREN, PRAY!"

Mirjana told Fr. Milan that Our Lady was referring to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, for Catholics, when She said. "...reconcile and purify your soul."

A REMINDER ABOUT "THE WARNING"

Pray and Fast for the 

SAVING OF SOULS !  

 

I feel the need to remind you all that the Secrets of Medjugorje are drawing closer and closer, especially the first Secrets.  

The first three "Secrets" are described both at Medjugorje (1980's) and Garabandal (1960's) and by others, and are called “THE WARNING.” I was blissfully living out my days, thinking that it was still a long way off, but I am being prompted to look into it anew. 

The Warning takes up the first 3 of the 10 Secrets of Medjugorje and the first 2 of 3 Secrets of Garabandal. Medjugorje separates the opening visual event (first Medjugorje secret) from the second Medjugorje secret which is spiritual. The third Medjugorje secret, according to my understanding, is another largely visual event, but includes spiritual dimensions and is predicted to occur about a year later.  (The 10th Medjugorje Secret coincides with the 3rd Garabandal Secret which I am not trying to describe here, but is the main motivation for this blog site which I have kept going since 2013.)  

The first two Medjugorje secrets will happen on the same day. This is the same event as the first Garabandal secret. Both will be announced a few days in advance, in Medjugorje by Father Petar (working with the visionary, Mirjana). 

IT SEEMS THE FIRST EVENT WILL BE A COSMIC COLLISION OF TWO STARS, VISIBLE THE WHOLE WORLD OVER. It will be real but won't hurt us. It will be thunderous and brilliant. That is to get everybody's attention!

THE ACCOMPANYING EVENT WILL BE THE “WARNING”. It is sometimes called “THE CORRECTION OF CONSCIENCES” or “THE ILLUMINATION OF CONSCIENCES” In this miraculous instant, like the one we expect to experience when we die, we will be given a review of our whole lives, with an assessment of our destiny if we were to die at that moment, heaven, purgatory, or hell. AND WE WILL BE GIVEN BY GOD THE ASSURANCE THAT WE ARE LOVED AND HOW WE SHOULD PROCEED IN ORDER TO GET TO HEAVEN. We will know that God has spoken to us and have the opportunity to make any necessary changes in future. Everyone on earth will receive this Voice of God at the same time but be individually addressed according to his or her own soul's condition. No one will be killed, but some people might die from shock!

This means to me that we might want to spiffy-up our souls in preparation for this special audience with His Wonderful Majesty. Nothing can change the reality of our past sins, and we are going to have to look at them again, confessed or not, forgiven or not. Yet we will be left with an overwhelming assurance that we are totally LOVED by our God and have HIS word on what is true! And we will know it is HIM!

The Blessed Mother gave these secrets at Medjugorje and Garabandal and other places to encourage all people to turn to God's commandments and to pray and fast in expiation for sins and for the conversion of sinners. The MORE we pray and fast in anticipation of the Warning, the MORE SUCCESS there will be in saving MORE SOULS. This is why Mary appears on earth, why Our Lord sends her again and again, why we listen with our hearts “burning within us”... to SAVE MORE SOULS!

This is an "off the top of my head" verson of the Warning and my own comments.  None of it is copied word for word from any of many sources.

January 1, 2024, at 3:00 PM local time in Medjugorje, all the pilgrims present in the parish were invited to a 3-hour prayer meeting with the visionary Marija. The group prayer took place in front of Our Lady's statue on Podbrdo (Apparition Hill). 

At around 6:00 PM, as the prayers drew to a close, Our Lady appeared to Marija. After the apparition, Marija said “Our Lady was joyful and prayed over all of us."

December 25, 2023 Message to Jakov:  At the last daily apparition to Jakov Colo on September 12th, 1998, Our Lady told him that henceforth he would have one apparition a year, every December 25th, on Christmas Day. This is also how it was this year. The apparition began at 2:20 pm and lasted 6 minutes. Our Lady came with little Jesus in her arms.
